As August arrives in California, the ripe days of summer are in full swing. With the temperatures soaring to an all-time high, the dog days mean heading west towards the beach any opportunity you get. With the season coming to an end, soaking up the sun is at the top of everyone's list. One of the most quintessential destinations -- the unique and beautiful neighborhoods around Venice Beach.
These charming streets are the best destinations for exploring unique costal architecture. From festive barbeques tucked away at hidden bungalows off Electric, to an overflowing crowd at sunset in a modern canal home -- the Westside is home to a diverse Los Angeles beach community. The houses can be classic and colonial, to industrial and minimal. This social crowd of artists and musicians reside in homes that reflect their individuality and tasteful choice of design.
One of the most common styles of Venetian architecture is the craftsman house. Something about the simplicity of an old-time cabin-like compound seems to fit Venice’s eclectic vibe so well. In pulling off the craftsman look I try to maintain a level of hipness. I sported a Polo by Ralph Lauren bandana print workshirt, Big Star’s faded striped shorts, folding Persols, and Miansai rope bracelet.
