If you ask me, there’s no question when it comes to California’s biggest contribution to the fashion world. Hands down it’s denim! As the birthplace of Levi ‘s – the first blue jean manufacturer –it seems only natural for CA to be the denim capital.
Early this week, I had the opportunity to tour US Garment, one of the largest denim wash houses in Los Angeles. US Garment does premium washing for a number of brands including; 7 For All Mankind, Hudson and 3x1.
Getting a firsthand look at the all that goes into manufacturing jeans was awesome! I was completely oblivious to everything that goes into creating the perfect wash. From formulating the proper dyes, to sanding by hand, to laser printing, the process that goes into crafting the perfect pair of jeans was much more complex than I imagined. US Garment also specializes in a process called rip and repair which gives denim that vintage look by adding and patching holes for a worn-in appearance.
I tried to stick to an all American look for our tour - Ralph Lauren Denim & Supply black and white checked shirt over an Abbot + Main v-neck tee. Paired with Nudie jeans and Tod’s driving moccasins.
